    Declán of Ardmore (Irish: Declán mac Eircc, Latin: Declanus, died 5th century), also called Déclán, was an early Irish saint of the Déisi Muman, who was remembered for having converted the Déisi in the late 5th century and for having founded the monastery of Ardmore (Ard Mór) in what is now Co. Waterford. The principal source for his life and cult is a Latin Life of the 12th century.   One of the earliest monastic sites in Ireland, Ardmore, Co. Waterford was probably founded sometime in the 5th century AD by St. Declan. This early Irish saint was associated with the Déisi Muman people of Waterford and his missionary work amongst them may have pre-dated the activities of St. Patrick. The Pilgrim's Round of Ardmore The really sturdy pilgrim might start from Cashel, along the ancient path to Lismore and on to Ardmore, or from Cappoquin, in which parish is the reputed birth-place of St. Declan at Drumroe. But for most people the least demanding pilgrimage is the Round of Ardmore.

Pilgrimage in honour of St Declan at Ardmore, Co Waterford, can be traced back to the early medieval period. During the nineteenth and early twentieth century, Ardmore was one of the most important pilgrim sites in the southeast of Ireland, attracting ’s of pilgrims. Ardmore (Irish: Aird Mhór, meaning "Great Height") is a seaside resort and fishing village in County Waterford, Ireland, not far from Youghal on the south coast of Ireland, with a permanent population of aroundthat increases in the tourist season.

The ancient pilgrim path of St. Declan’s Way takes an 96km (56 mile) route from Ardmore, Co. Waterford to the famous Rock of Cashel in Co.

Tipperary. It is a modern walking route linking the ancient ecclesiastical centres of Ardmore in County Waterford and Cashel in County Tipperary.
